Just call me Urban Grace…

yeah right!!  If only, that would mean I was super cute with fabulous personal and domestic style.  Maybe that can be my 2011 resolution…

Buuut for those of you who care, I wanted to give y’all an update on the house!  We have been working really hard the past month and a half to actually make a home.  When we first moved in after the wedding our house was just like a hodge-podge of random stuff.  It worked for the time but since we were forced to move out and all I could think about was when we got back how I wanted everything to look and how to make our house into a home. I guess it kind of lit a fire under my butt to get things together. (pun intended.)

So that is what we’ve been up to.  If you know me, you know when I have a task I have a tenancy to hunker down and get my elbows dirty until the task is completed.  Now I can finally exhale and have been enjoying our home!!  I’m not totally sure how I feel about posting pictures of our house online…? I mean I know a ton of people do it, but for some reason it’s a bit odd to me and kinda creepy, so we are going to go little bit by little bit until I get more used to it.

On tour for tonight: the porch and dining room!

When you walk up to our house, you see this:

Pretty cool huh?

Obviously our Christmas decor is seasonal 🙂  The front door was like that when we got the house.  I know our landlord had it made but I have no clue the history.  I just love it every time I walk up.

And how cute is my Christmas Angel?  Mom had 2 and let me and sister each have one.  I love seeing it every time I come home! here’s a close view:

Here is a shot of the door from the inside of the house, you’ll notice the Battenburg Lace:

I loved the door and the look but it was kind of spooky when the delivery guy would come to the door and like appear out of nowhere. And that he could see into a majority of our house.  I wanted something for some privacy but didn’t want to lose or change the effect of the door.  My mom found this lace and made a modified cafe curtain.  She got a mini-rod with clip rings and just folded over the top of the lace and clipped.  No clipping or sewing involved, super easy and super cute.  The ruffle adds a decorative flair so that it looks stylish from the inside when you’re looking at it and still looks nice from the outside.

Ok so then, obviously, you walk through the door.  Our dining room is to the left when you walk through and our den is to the right.  It’s really one big open space and the furniture makes the space designations really.  So when you look left you see this:

Za Dining Room

I like it… Nothing in this room is actually mine. HA not one single thing.  The piece on the left is my landlord’s.  She didn’t have room in her house for it and asked if I cared if she left it there and I said as long as she didn’t care if I kept my things in it.  It’s a beautiful piece that I’ve really enjoyed.  The table is my mom’s, she had it on a porch downstairs and wasn’t using it.  The chairs were my grandmothers as well as the blue bankett (?) couch.  That chair fabric is so random, but I was desperate for some chairs and they have a really good look.  It is hilarious because now that my house is finished they actually match everything!!  Seeing them in my mom’s basement my first response was “eh… they’ll do” but now I love them.  I mean let’s be honest, it’s not like if you were in a fabric store you would see that fabric swatch and just die over it, but now that it’s all together I love it!  Here’s a close up:

Pretty random right?  Here is the close-up of the couch.

It was in my Mimi’s formal living room at the house I grew up seeing them in.  I love sentimental pieces like that.  It’s crazy how Damask print was in even when my Mimi was decorating her house.  I just need some good pillows for it, suggestions welcome!  I love that now my friends and loved ones gather around in her chairs and couch and enjoy each others company, laughing talking and loving on each other.  I like to to think that she likes looking down on us from above.

Ok the arrangement on the wall is completely fake, bought at (I believe) Hobby Lobby and designed by my mom.  Mom has a few of these in her house and I have always loved them.  When we were going through the basement, I saw this rickety, dilapidated French basket.  As in, totally falling apart and wired together.  But I still had to have it.  So mom arranged me an awesome little diddy and it helps with the really high ceilings.

The buffet is also my mom’s and my sister also has the matching one.  I like that we have a lot of the same stuff.  We are always wanting what the other one has and sharing things.  I like walking past things in my house knowing Sister has the other match.  Kind of like those “Best Friends” necklaces that you had in 3rd grade where you had one half and your best friend had the other, and when you were together you put them together and it said “Best Friends”, but better looking and more expensive 🙂

Also, a theme on this blog will be “my mom sewed/made/whittled/crafted” the said item or I bought the said item.  As much as I would LOOOVE to be kitsy, crafty and make my own really neat things for cheap, I am so type A.  It’s just not in me.  I can do some, but not worth blogging about 🙂  So as much as I wish I could claim talent, I just can’t.  So get ready to see more of what my mom made me and what I bought! 🙂

Well that’s all for now.  I’ll see what the response is like on this post!  It still feels funny to do this, so y’all let me know if you care to see more!
